Hi, my name is Ana and I am originally from Uruguay. I have been living in the US for the past 15 years, first in Connecticut, then in Ohio, then in Boston and, for the past 7 years, in Southern California. I am married and have two young children.
In a previous life I was a Spanish-English-German translator with a focus on computers and software localization. I was very passionate about translation, but then it lost its "spark." Now I devote my time to my family, friends, and sewing. I am also interested in music and current events. I am a big NPR fan.
I am not an advanced sewer by any means, but I do LOVE sewing and learning as much as I can about it. There are still so many things I want to learn and try, I don't think I will ever have enough time to do that!
Some facts about my blog:
1) This blog came to be because I find that most commercial patterns are conceived and written, in my opinion, with someone in mind who is NOT ME. I often need to read them over and over and over before I even attempt to cut the fabric! Then, inevitably I get "stuck" at one point or another during the sewing process. At those times I feel helpless and all I want is a someone with more experience to show me what to do. As I don't live close to my mom or anyone close who knows how to sew, I often turn to the Internet for advice, and when I find a tutorial on the pattern I am trying I feel so grateful and happy! So in this blog I intend to walk you through sewing patterns, from start to finish. I want to be that helping hand for you. Remember, though, that I am still learning, so I will most likely make mistakes. But I hope that together we learn from them!
2) Why is this blog bilingual? Well... because keeping up with 2 blogs is just too much work. Plus, I love being able to reach twice as many people. :-)
3) I assume that you possess basic sewing skills and that you're familiar with sewing terminology.
4) For now, with my youngest one at home, I can't post as often as I would like (daily, for instance). But I'll try my best to do it once weekly.
5) I am not a big fan of posting pictures of myself or my family. Sorry about that.

En una vida anterior era traductora de español, inglés y alemán, con una especialización en computadoras y localización de software. Me encantaba la traducción con locura, pero después perdió la "chispa". Ahora me dedico a mi familia, mis amigos, y a la costura. No tengo conocimientos avanzados de costura ni mucho menos pero me ENCANTA coser y aprender lo más que pueda al respecto. Todavía me queda mucho por aprender e intentar y dudo que me alcance el tiempo para eso.
Algunas notas sobre mi blog:
1) Este blog surgió porque en mi experiencia, la mayoría de los moldes comerciales están escritos y pensados, en mi opinión, para personas muchas veces me he "trancado" en algún momento de la costura. En esos momentos siento impotencia y todo lo que quiero es que alguien con más experiencia me diga o muestre qué hacer. Como vivo lejos de mi madre u otra gente que sabe coser, muchas veces recurro a Internet para buscar consejo, y si encuentro un tutorial del molde que estoy haciendo me siento super feliz y agradecida! De modo que en este blog mi intención es mostrarles cómo coser algo a partir de un molde, de principio a fin. Quiero ser esa mano que les ayude. Sin embargo, recuerden que yo todavía estoy aprendiendo, o sea que muy probablemente cometeré errores. Pero espero que juntos podamos aprender de esos errores.
2) ¿Por qué un blog bilingüe? Bueno, porque mantener dos blogs es demasiado trabajo. Además, me encanta poder llegar al doble de gente. :-)
3) Doy por sentado que la persona que lee este blog tiene conocimientos básicos de costura y que está familiarizada con los términos de costura.
4) Por ahora, con mi hija menor en casa, no puedo ofrecer entregas con la frecuencia que yo quisiera (a diario, por ej.). Pero haré lo posible por escribir una vez por semana.
5) No me gusta subir fotos mías o de mi familia. Lo lamento.
